South Korea, U.S. near agreement on site for missile defence

SEOUL, Korea, Republic Of - Seoul and Washington say they're close to deciding when and where in South Korea an advanced U.S. missile defence system will be deployed to cope with growing threats from North Korea.

Seoul and Washington launched formal talks on deploying the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defence, or THAAD, after North Korea conducted a nuclear test and a long-range rocket launch earlier this year.

China, Russia and North Korea all oppose the THAAD deployment, which critics say could help U.S. radar spot missiles from other countries.
